Books are part of life as well as source of knowledge, said Social Welfare and Social Education minister Santana Chakma during her speech as chief guest after inauguration of 15th Kailashahar Book Fair at the premises of R.K. Institution yesterday.
Principal of Kailashahar Ramkrishna Mission Ashram Tyagi Baranandaji Maharaj inaugurated the 5 days long book fair earlier.
Speaking on the occasion Social Education minister expected that books would never become out of date while internet became relevant today. She compared the fair with fair of life.
Inaugurating the fair Branandaji said, offering knowledge is greater than offering food. Referring the necessity of thoughtful person for the society he appealed all to offer books as gift and to inculcate reading habit among each and everyone.
Convener of Book Fair Committee Nitish Dey delivered the welcome address. Different cultural organizations and eminent artists will perform cultural programme in the evening everyday at open stage of the book fair.
Besides, felicitation of eminent persons, discussion on literature and open quiz will be organized during 5 days of the book fair. The fair will remain open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
Meanwhile minister Santana Chakma released collection of story Anubhabe by Samir Bhattacharjee and a book on Army ‘ Our Real Hero’ and souvenir of the book fair.
Our correspondent from Dharmanagar added that a meeting held at conference hall of Vivekananda Sardha Satabarsiki Hall for organizing book fair at Dharmanagar. MLA Biswabandhu Sen, SDM Rajesh Kumar Das and chairman of Dharmanagar Municipal Council Shakti Bhattacharjee were present in the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that five days book fair will begin from May 22 at Dharmanagar BBI Play ground. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will inaugurate the fair. Stage of book fair will be named after five poets including Rabindranath Tagore, Rajani Kanta Sen, Atul Prashad, Dwijendra Lal Roy and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Preparation of book fair is going on now at full swing.
