As the Tripura government felt the necessity of building a New Raj Bhawan taking a cue from the former Governor of the state D Y Patil who was keen to quit this "endangered building" vulnerable to earthquakes, The present Governor of the state Tathagata Roy is all set to make an entry into the new Raj Bhawan on April 18, the construction work of which was started from the month of May, 2014 at Agartala Capital Complex area near the secretariat building. Governor Tathagata Roy is all set to move to the newly built Raj Bhawan on Wednesday morning quitting the 100 years old Bhawan located at some 1 km North of the Agartala's royal palace Ujjayanta Palace. Built in 1917, the Old Ran Bhawan is known as Pushpavant Palace. It was built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Bahadur in accordance with the then architectural methods. Hence, it could not be made earthquake-resistance.
Governor Tahtagata Roy who earlier visited the new Raj Bhawan and urged upon to expedite the construction work in view of the monsoon season on Tuesday expressed that it was a pleasant for him during the last three years since he became the Governor of this state. Governor sturdily felt the necessity of immediate renovation of the old Raj Bahwan as it has become endangered for any individual to stay.
Appointed as the Governor of Tripura in May 2015 Governor Tathagat Roy on Tuesday fragranced the historical wonder of this 100 years old Raj Bhawan loacted at Kunjaban.
Meantime while being asked about his view; Governor Tathagata Roy said that the government has taken a very worthy decision of turning this old Raj Bhawan into Museum after its renovation.
However, the old Raj Bhawan does have its historical glory as this has been identified as a heritage building not only because of its association with royalty but also because poet Rabindra Nath Tagore and other contemporary great personalities had stayed here as royal guests.
