Col C K Nayudu Trophy Under 23 cricket: Shyam Sakil’s 73 put Tripura in good position against Goa

AGARTALA:

A brilliant knock of 73 runs by Shyam Sakil Gon and some good contributions from Arkaprabha Sinha, Bikram Debnath and Neelambuj Vats took Tripura to competitive position against Goa today. In the ongoing Col C K Nayudu trophy under 23 cricket tournament at the end of day one today Tripura made 230 for the loss of 8 wickets against host Goa. Though the total is not that huge one but after losing their opening 4 wickets for just 58 runs, this looked to be a very much competitive total in the end.

Tripura lost their 4 wickets for just 58 runs and among them 45 has been scored by Arkaprabha who was looking good but failed to score big. But the innings has been well guided by Shyam Sakil Gon and Bikram Debnath while in the end Neelambuj Vats also fighting well for his unbeaten 38 runs. Shyam Sakil Gon made 73 while Bikram Debnath made 36 runs. Now the opening session of day two will be crucial as the last two batsmen need to stand up with Neelambuj Vats and then only Tripura can think a score passed 300.

In the morning Tripura Captain Subham Ghosh won the toss and elected to bat first. Arkaprabha Singh gave the visiting side a prolific start but at the other then Tripura was losing wickets at regular intervals. Mithun Debbarma (5), Samrat Sutradhar (4) and Subham Ghosh (1) went out cheaply. Arkaprabha was today timing the ball well and it looked like he will bat long and score a big score for his team. But that was not happened as he played too shots too many and went out after making 45 from 58 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

At that moment Tripura’s scored was 58/4 and the duo of Shyam Sakil Gon and Bikram Debnath started to rebuild the innings. The duo added 86 runs for the fifth wicket before Bikram Debnath went out after scoring 36 from 89 balls with 4 fours. Shyam Sakil Gon in between completed his half century but after adding 40 runs with Neelambuj, the former went out on 73 from 144 balls with 12 fours. At the end of day 1 Tripura made 230/8 from 90 overs. Neelambuj Vats remained unbeaten on 38. V A Naik and Amulya Pandrekar of Goa picked up 3 wickets each.
