BJP govt. in Tripura eyes on more revenue generation, 2018-19 FY budget proposes to hike tax, cess on fuel

Eyeing to generate more revenue and an additional of Rs. 40.84 crores per year, the Tripura BJP-IPFT government in its 2018-19 Financial Year (FY) budget tabling has proposed to hike road tax and cess on petrol, diesel and gas.

Cess on petrol (Rs. 1.15), diesel (Rs. 1.13) and PNG (Rs. 4.4 per month) has been proposed for road development of the state, he said on the first day of the Budget Session of the Assembly, said the Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma while tabling the deficit-free Budget of Rs. 16,387.21 crore for the 2018-19 fiscal today.  

While tabling the budget at the first day of the assembly session on Tuesday, the government clarified that the additional revenue generation shall be utilized on development of roads and its maintenance.

It was made clear in the budget presented today that road tax will be marginally increased, leaving out three wheelers while electric vehicles will be exempted from payment of road tax. 

Besides, a statement issued by the finance department said that Tripura has one of the lowest tax regimes on petrol, diesel and gas and hence a 2% extra VAT will be levied on these items along cess at differential rates.
