Bijan indicates to extend support to centre’s proposal of elevating ADC in Tripura

AGARTALA:

Just after the union minister for tribal welfare Juel Oram indicated that centre is mulling over elevating ADC in Tripura to state autonomous district council for the welfare of the tribal people here, the CPI-M state Secretary Bijan Dhar clarified it saying, “The centre must comes up with clarification over the same.”

Dhar said, “The state Left front government would look into the matter only if the centre plans to amend the 6th schedule of the Indian constitution and brings up the policy to turn ADC into state council.”

He also said that if the central government clarifies the functioning of the state council after elevation and brings in the financial support system, the state government here would extend its support thinking over the issue as this is a matter of providing more power to the ADC here.

“At present we have one ADC here with a total of 19 tribes, but we would not support any proposal of forming separate ADCs for the 19 tribes,” Dhar told www.tripuraindia.com today evening.

However, besides Dhar also clarified that the Left front government and the ruling CPI-M will never ever support the demand of separate state for the tribal people here.
