Bamboo plantation under JICA to boost Tripura's economy, says CM

Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Wednesday said, "The bamboo plantation under the JICA project shall boost the state's economy, and the government is working on it which also aims to set up employment opportunities." Deb was addressing a programme of launching the Project for Sustainable Catchment Forest Management in a programme organised in Agartala today.

"Through this bamboo plantation, skills of our people of this state in making handicraft items and accessories shall be highlighted in an international market," adding to this the Chief Minister said, "We are hiring experts to talk to our handicraft designers so as to catch the international market and sell the bamboo made products."

Mr. Deb in his address has praised the Japan government today and said that this JICA project shall further strengthen India-Japan relations and also playing an instrumental role in transforming Tripura into a Model state.

"Rs. 1000 crore has been sanctioned under this JICA project," CM said adding that this project which consists of series of sustainable schemes shall be implemented across the seven districts of this state and Dhalai district shall work on this project partly.
