2 injured, shops burnt in NE bandh along Assam-Agartala highway

AGARTALA:

The 11 hours North East Bandh called by the North East Students’ Organization (NESO), an umbrella body of eight student groups from different northeast states goes violent since Tuesday morning along the Assam-Agartala National Highway at Jirania Madhav Bari area. As many as 2 of the agitators were injured during the observance of strike after police conducted lathi charge. All of them were later rushed to the Agartala hospital.

However, according to the latest input till making the story content, the agitators burnt as many as seven shops at Madhav Bari and the situation remained unstable as the agitators were indulged in clash with the police and security forces. 

The agitators mostly of Twipra Students' Organisation under the NESO pelted stones and fired gasoline on the police who were in a move to restrict them from getting violent. Adequate security arrangements were covered in the area following the violence.

The agitators condemned the bill and lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing that it would be soon passed in the Parliament.

In protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the entire Northeast is observing an 11-hour bandh on Tuesday from 5 am to 4 pm.

The NESO called for the bandh across seven northeastern states, which is being supported by the AGP, the Congress and 30 other ethnic organisations from Assam.

Polling begins for Tripura East LS constituency

Election officials said that around 14 lakh electorate, including 6.94 lakh female voters, are eligible to cast their votes in 1,664 polling stations in different districts of the state to decide the fate of nine candidates in the politically crucial parliamentary seat.
