Vice chairman of Melaghar municipality, Shapankar Sarkar, has been arrested today by Melagarh police for preventing an on-duty police officer.
He will be produced before the court tomorrow, police said. Sources said, on Sunday night the vice chairman Shapankar Sarkar along with some his friends attacked a police party in inebriated condition.
Reportedly, Shapankar and his accomplices violated the curfew norm and on being prevented by the police team and TSR Jawans they retaliated. As per the police complaint, they tried to snatch the rifle from the TSR Jawans.
Soon a reinforcement team rushed to the spot and got holds the situation. All of the trouble makers sustained injuries after police resorted to lathi charge.
They were arrested after doctors discharged them from hospital this morning.
