Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday visited the Srimantapur Integrated Check Post (ICP) and land port station at Sonamura in Tripura’s Sepahijala district and inspected the developmental works of the bordering areas.
During her visit Sitharaman interacted with the concerned officials and border personnel from both sides on different points of issues related to the ICP. Officials of different central departments including CBIC, and Land Port Authority of India, and state administration were present during her visit.
She also inspected various facilities at the ICP and a jetty on the Gomati River along the Indo-Bangla border and interacted with the concerned officials about issues related to the passengers’ movement, trade recorded daily between the two countries, among other things.
The Integrated Check Post at Srimantapur border ensures connectivity through enhanced passenger movement.
Sitharaman also visited the zero point along the Indo-Bangladesh border where the Border Guards of Bangladesh welcomed her with a bouquet.
