An undertrial inmate identified as Dilip Das (54) died of cardiac arrest at Kanchanpur Sub-jail on Saturday night, police said.
“The inmate had suffered a sudden cardiac attack and he collapsed before we could take any action. He was later declared dead while taken to the hospital”, said a local police officer.
According to reports, Das who was till Friday kept in Dharmanagar jail on charges of molestation had been shifted to Kanchanpur sub-jail yesterday. On his arrival, necessary medical checks were done but none of the doctors could trace his ill-health.
However, at around 12:30 am Das died. The body was later sent for post-mortem and it was handed over to the family members on Saturday morning after the autopsy.
The Police sources said, “The matter needs a review and soon after the autopsy report comes out, everything will be cleared”.
