A pall of grief has descended over Manikchandra Para in Premsing Orang Village under Kalyanpur following the tragic death of two children after being buried under a sand mound collapse on Thursday. The remote village remains in deep shock as locals struggle to accept the heartbreaking incident.
Soon after the mishap, local MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury rushed to Khowai District Hospital, where another injured child is undergoing treatment. He ensured all necessary medical support was arranged for the survivor.
On Friday morning, the MLA visited the residences of the deceased children, Rumai Debbarma (5) and Ayush Debbarma (7), and expressed his condolences to their grieving families. He was accompanied by Kalyanpur Block BAC Chairperson Indrani Debbarma and several other dignitaries.
“There are no words to express this sorrow. I cannot even find the right language to convey my condolences. All I can do is silently pray for the families,” MLA said.
Acknowledging the magnitude of the loss, he added that no compensation could ever truly make up for it, but assured that the government would extend all possible support as per administrative procedures.
Locals alleged that the area had long been at risk of sand collapse and claimed that lack of precaution may have led to the tragedy. Responding to these concerns, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury said that a thorough and impartial investigation would be conducted, and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning when three children were playing near a sand pile. Suddenly, the sand caved in, burying them. Two children died on the spot, while the third was rescued in critical condition and is currently under treatment.
The tragic accident has cast a shadow of mourning across Manikchandra Para. Local residents have urged the administration to strengthen safety measures in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
