Tripura records 91.54 per cent turnout this election with re-polling in 6 centers

As the state of Tripura on Monday went for re-polling in a total of six centers as per the direction of the Election Commission of India (ECI), 90.58 per cent turnout recorded till this evening, said the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti this evening while addressing a press conference.

He said, “There is no report of any technical glitches in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) s and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPAT) s.”

The six centers include – Sonamura, Teliamura, Sabroom, Ampinagar, Kadamtala-Kurti and Dhanpur.

Adding to this the CEO further informed, “With this re-polling turnout the state has recorded a total of 91.54 per cent turnout in these general assembly constituencies to 59 of 60 seats.”

“Today was the last date of the withdrawal of nomination papers for the Charilam by-election,” adding CEO said, “A total of 5 candidates shall contest this by-election in Charilam assembly constituency.”

The election in Tripura’s Charilam assembly seat, which was postponed following the death of Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM candidate, will be held on12 March. The result of this particular election will be declared on 15 March.
