Claiming of good governance in Tripura, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday said, “The Unakoti district of the state recorded high in conviction rate under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section followed by other districts of the state.”
He said Tripura recorded 47 percent in overall conviction rate which was only 26 percent earlier under the Left era. “Unakoti district has recorded highest of 26.54 percent in conviction rate under IPC section,” adding to this Mr. Deb said, “The Tripura government is committed to increase the conviction rate imposing strictest punishments for the criminals.”
The chief minister was addressing the 3rd State Conference of Tripura State BJP Law & Legal Affairs Department here at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan on Sunday.
He said, “The Gomati district of the state has recorded second highest of 22 percent under IPC section, Khowai district has recorded 11.91 percent whereas the South district of the state has recorded 5.42 percent followed by others.” The Chief Minister today said, “The Tripura government has also introduced stern punishment for the accused under Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.”
“Bank accounts of the criminals or the drug mafias booked under NDPS Act are now to be seized so as to restrict them from paying hefty fees to the lawyers and get out of bail from the court,” adding to this Mr. Deb said, "Nobody wither it may be any influential person or others shall be spared from punishment especially under NDPS Act"
He said, “Conviction rate in the State has improved - and we have to take it above the national rate. However, the crime rate needs to be pulled down to zero and the State government is committed to stopping atrocities on women.”
Meantime, the Chief Minister today said, “The law and order situation in the state has considerably improved during the past 20 months of the BJP lead coalition government.”
