The traffic police in Agartala have initiated a strict operation to combat the rising traffic congestion and night-time accidents plaguing the city. Since Friday morning, the special enforcement team has been discreetly affixing penalty stickers of over five hundred rupees on bikes and cars parked illegally on the side of the road.
With the increasing trend of urban residents purchasing luxury cars and occupying government land for parking, the traffic situation has worsened, affecting the daily lives of the town’s people. The traffic jam continues to escalate, while accidents during the night have also seen a surge.
To address this critical issue, the traffic police have taken action against those who park their vehicles illegally on the city's roads. The first-time offenders are fined Rs 500 and the penalty is doubled for subsequent violations. Traffic DSP Pranab Das stated that the operation targeted the busiest roads in the city, including the motor stand area, to ensure effective enforcement.
Residents of Agartala have expressed their support for such operations to be conducted regularly and without bias towards influential individuals who leave their cars parked on the side of the road for extended periods. The lack of proper parking arrangements inconveniences pedestrians and contributes to the city's traffic woes.
By implementing consistent fines and penalties, authorities hope that car owners will become more mindful of their parking behaviour and take necessary steps to avoid contributing to the traffic congestion. The enforcement team encourages car owners to pay the fines promptly to deter repeated offenses.
The residents' demand for regular enforcement reflects the urgency to address the traffic issue promptly, ensuring a safer and smoother commuting experience for all residents of Agartala. As the operation continues, authorities hope it will raise awareness and prompt responsible parking practices among car owners and alleviate the city's traffic woes.
The traffic police urge citizens to cooperate with the enforcement measures and contribute to making Agartala a smart city with efficient traffic management and safer roads.
