Tension over new entrants grips Putia

AGARTALA:

Tension prevailed at Putia village under Kalamchoura police station under Sonamura sub-division when 37 inhabitants of the village were sent back by the administration and were resisted from being entered, police said.

Sources in the police departments said not less than 37 people of the Putia village who use to roam village to village and work as Baidya (a member of a travelling people traditionally living by itinerant trade and fortune telling), have been identified and sent back to Putia on Thursday. But, as soon as they arrive there locals resisted welcoming them in fear of COVID infection.

Reportedly, a group of people rushed to their slum and started inquiring about their travel history. Soon after that police were informed to assess the situation. A large contingent of police rushed to the spot. After initial interrogation they had been asked to stay the night.

On Friday morning, the locals rushed to the spot and asked the entire slum to evict the area. However, the problems solved after prompt actions taken by civil administration and police. Police sources said, further investigation revealed that they had been sent back to their village by SDM Teliamura after a thorough inspection and health checkup and there are no reasons to worry about.
