The state transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday met the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu in Delhi and discussed a series of issues related to the development of air services from Agartala MBB Airport.
The minister demanded the Centre to declare the Agartala MBB Airport as International Airport and start direct flight service along Agartala-Mumbai route. He also demanded the Centre to increase flights along Agartala-Delhi route.
Seeking the Union Minister's intervention, the minister demanded the Centre to regulate air fare and reduce the financial burden on the air passengers. He also appealed to the Union Minister to start more new flight services from MBB Airport in Agartala.
“The Union Minister said that he would soon visit the site of Kailasahar Airport, which has been abandoned for many years, and assured to give serious consideration to the implementation of a benchmark and delimitation policy on air fares, keeping in mind the larger interest of the air passengers of the state,” Chowdhury added.
Meanwhile, the minister on Monday also met the Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi and demanded the Centre for further development of railway services in the state.
He said, “Hon'ble Union Minister of Railways listened very patiently and earnestly to the issues raised by me and realized their importance and assured to take appropriate action at the earliest.”
