In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Unakoti District Hospital witnessed the successful completion of a complex hernioplasty surgery on February 22. The specialist surgeon, Dr. Subhraniloy Das, led a skilled team in addressing a ventral hernia in a forty-five-year-old woman, who also presented complications related to heart block.
As per press release of Health Department, the patient, hailing from Kailashahar, had been enduring a swollen upper abdomen for the past two years, coupled with respiratory issues over the last six to seven months due to underlying heart disease. Seeking medical attention, she visited the outpatient department of Unakoti District Hospital, where the surgical department, upon assessment of her symptoms, recommended immediate intervention.
Dr. Subhraniloy Das, a specialist surgeon at the hospital, identified the ventral hernia based on thorough examination reports and promptly advised surgery. Despite financial constraints, the patient's family opted for the procedure at Unakoti District Hospital over Agartala GBP Hospital, and the decision proved crucial in ensuring the patient's timely and successful treatment.
The surgical team, comprised of Assistant Surgeon Dr. Prasenjit Debbarma, Anesthetist Dr. Rupmoy Das, Staff Nurse Smriti Das, and OT Technician Suranjit Das, worked diligently under Dr. Subhraniloy Das's supervision. The surgery, lasting two hours, revealed three gaps in the patient's abdomen, with the colon and intestine protruding, requiring meticulous attention from the medical team.
Dr. Purnakrit Debbarma, the Medical Superintendent of Unakoti District Hospital, played a pivotal role in providing the necessary support to ensure the surgery's success. Following the procedure, the patient, a beneficiary of the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana, is currently in recovery under the vigilant care of medical professionals.
The patient's family expressed their gratitude for the facility of such a complex surgery being available at the local district hospital, emphasizing the financial relief provided by the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana. This achievement underscores the growing capabilities of district hospitals, bringing advanced medical care to local communities.
