Corruption of about Rs. 2 crore came in forefront by misappropriation fund for three projects during rule of Left Front at Thairung Panchayat of Sabroom subdivision. The incident created lot of reaction among the local people. Sources said that powerful leaders of CPI-M at Satchand R.D. department and Panchayat Samiti are involved with the corruption.
Most funny thing is that the project has not been implemented till today due to technical fault.
The first project is 100 ft long foot bridge over Manu River on the way from Thairung to Chalitacherri. The department sources said that an amount of Rs.50 lakh spent for construction of the foot bridge before 10 years. The bridge has not been inaugurated till today due to lack of approach road at two ends of bridge. The bridge may collapse at any time due to degraded construction, said villager Pradip Das.
Meanwhile a source of RD department said that Sohel Alam, the then engineer constructed the bridge with fund allotted for MNREGA.
The second project is “Installation of 200 HP Motor for irrigation scheme at Manu River”. The project also constructed with fund of MNREGA by spending an amount of Rs. 54 lakh at 13 Card areas under Thairung Panchayat. But the project has not been implemented during last 10 years due to technical fault in installation of the project.
The third project is “10,000 GPH Iron Removal Plant at Thairung”. The construction of the project ended in 2008. But it has not been started till today. As a result people of Thairung expressed strong resentment against the government. Commenting about the irrigation project one engineer said that operation of 200 HP machine is not possible with normal electricity and unscientifically narrow pipes used in the project.
Officer of Sabroom DWS department said that RDD constructed the project and has not handed over to DWS. SDO Jhulan Malla said that he had no information about 10,000 Gallon GPH project. Meanwhile common people of Thairung Panchayat demanded investigation of corruption.
