In response to various issues raised in the newspapers regarding election in 1-West Tripura Parliamentary constituency held on April 19 last, the Returning Officer assured that all the issues have been inquired and adequately addressed.
The District Election Officer of the West Tripura District in its press communique stated, “Regarding the issue of Micro Observers getting pressurized to submit favourable reports, there has been no such incident in 1-West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency.”
“All the steps have been taken by the office so that micro observers give an objective report as per the Election Commission of India guidelines. Further, there were separate training sessions for the micro observers to ensure that they work independently and without any fear or favour. No pressure has been created on them either by the RO or the AROS,” the press communique stated.
On the issue of a polling personnel getting hospitalized, the RO Dr Vishal Kumar has personally visited the hospital and enquired about the health of the concerned person on April 22 last. During his visit the RO said that the person is doing well and has been discharged from the hospital.
The RO stated that regarding the complaint received from the CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhary on April 22 last regarding mismatch of polled votes, an enquiry was done by the AROs of the concerned assembly segments.
The press communique stated, “The issue was looked into by the General Observer on the day of scrutiny (20/4/24 at 11 AM in the conference hall of DM and Collector, West Tripura in presence of representatives of all political parties). A thorough scrutiny of Presiding officers' Diary, Micro Observer's report was done.”
It further stated, “The high polling percentage reported is because of the proximity of these polling station to the ARO headquarter. Most of the officers on election duty prefer to cast their vote there only.”
“In addition, the percentage of votes casted in 5/44- Lembuchara SB School (5- Khayerpur Assembly Segment) was 81.63% while the newspaper item published 99.15% based on hearsay,” it stated.
