In yet another significant development, police on Friday last apprehended at least 4 foreign nationals including 2 Bangladeshis and another 2 Rohingyas.
The first arrest was made based on information provided by an accused arrested earlier. Officer in-charge of West Agartala Police Station Paritosh Das, said the operation began early this month when a Bangladeshi national Md Suman was detained from Lankamura area of Tripura's West District on August 29 last. The suspect, during interrogation, shared vital information that resulted in the capture of two more Bangladeshis on Friday last from Agartala City Centre area. The detained Bangladeshi nationals were identified by the police as Rafik Shek and Azim Uddin.
Police informed that after the preliminary investigation, the Bangladeshi nationals admitted that they entered into the Indian Territory in Tripura by illegally crossing the border through Sonamura area. A specific case has been registered against the arrested Bangladeshi nationals.
In a separate operation, Government Railway Police detained two Rohingya nationals while they were trying to sneak through Tripura to reach West Bengal. The detained Rohingyas were identified as Azida Behum and Ramjam Ali.
Authorities have now started investigating the two incidents to establish the extent of the illegality and involvement of organized networks that facilitate such crossings.
