In a shocking incident one labourer died and two injured seriously when the side wall of Kumarghat Station collapsed today.
Sources said that the labourers were busy in construction of outlet drain of railway line at 4 No. Sukantanagar Overbridge drain. All of a sudden the side wall of Kumarghat Station collapsed on them. As a result labourer Bharatjoy Chakma (35) of Santipur village under Pecharthal died on the spot. Besides Pranjoy Debnath (22) of Pecharthal and Ashim Sukla Baidya (35) injured seriously. However, local people rescued him in injured condition and shifted to hospital. Observing the condition of Ashim Sukla Baidya the doctors referred him to Kailashahar District Hospital.
Later local people alleged that the work was allotted to railway department. But the work was given to some local contractors. As result the quality of work as deteriorated. The wall collapsed due to poor quality of work.
In protest of the incident the local people led by Nitesh Das, Md. Selim Uddin Khan and Anadi Barman staged a blockade on railway line. The blockade continued up to 11-25 p.m. Later on Police officials rushed to the spot. On the basis of discussion with police they withdrew the blocked at 11-30 a.m.
Later, the local people filed a case at Kumarghat Police Station. They demanded to identify the responsible persons behind poor quality of work and to make them bound to help the families of dead and injured labourers.
