In yet another tragic incident, a newborn lost his life while being treated in Covid ward of GBP hospital allegedly due to lack of medical attendance. The family members alleged that none of the doctors turned up to attend the baby’s mother, infected by Covid, after she was lodged in the Covid isolation ward of the GBP hospital.
Sources said that a woman gave birth to a baby in Bishalgarh sub-divisional hospital on Saturday evening. The name of the mother is Rupali Begam. Rupali was reportedly tested for COVID19 the day after the delivery. Health officials claimed she tested positive and she was sent along with her baby to GBP Hospital for better Covid care. Today morning at around 4 am, the baby died, according to the mother’s family members.
Speaking to the media, Rupali’s mother-in-law said, “Since my daughter-in-law was brought here with her newborn in GBP Hospital, no doctor attended them. When I asked the doctors for help, they kept sending me from table to table. Today morning Rupali called me and said that the baby was laying still in her arms and another patient told her that he was dead.”
Explaining about the incident, Rupali’s younger brother said, “No health professional went to see my sister or the baby after they were sent inside the isolation room. My sister is still holding her deceased baby as of 5 pm now; nobody has gone to check up on her. When I asked for their discharge, the hospital administration told me that they were unable to do so as there was no admit report available to them.”
Both Rupali’s brother and mother-in-law blamed the hospital doctors and health administration for the demise of the baby and the poignant situation of Rupali. On being asked if they were going to take any legal action, both of them answered vehemently in affirmation.
