The state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday inaugurated a day long block level livestock fair here at Jirania subdivision in West Tripura district and said that the farmers in Tripura are becoming self-reliant through livestock rearing besides agricultural production.
Addressing the gathering of livestock farmers in the programme, the minister said that besides employment, livestock rearing can empower youths in the rural pockets of the state, which perhaps shall play a significant role in boosting the rural economy.
“Farmers today have become financially self-sufficient not only through cultivation but also through livestock rearing. As their standard of living improves, the rural economy is also strengthened, Chowdhury said, adding that the government is implementing various projects for the development of farmers following the motto of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Viswas.
He also discussed in detail about PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, subsidized paddy purchase program and various supportive schemes for livestock development. He urged the farmers to reap the benefits of these schemes.
