In a heartening joint initiative by the SC Corporation and Agartala Municipal Corporation, 26 shopkeepers from the Scheduled Caste community at the fire-ravaged Battala market received a glimmer of hope as they were provided with electronic weight measuring machines today.
Mayor Dipak Majumder, and prominent philanthropist Sanjay Saha, along with other dignitaries, were present during the distribution event. Mayor Majumder highlighted the unfortunate incident a month ago when a devastating fire engulfed 130 traders' shops in Battala market. The Chief Minister, accompanied by officials, had visited the affected area, leading to the initiation of efforts to transform the market into a modern facility.
"The work of converting the Battala market into a modern market has already commenced, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready. The reconstruction work is scheduled to begin in March," Mayor announced.
The electronic weight measuring machines handed over to the 26 shopkeepers belonging to the SC caste, who were affected by the fire, aim to support them in restarting their businesses. The machines were provided as part of the ongoing efforts to help the affected traders get back on their feet and contribute to the revitalization of Battala market.
