The civil administration of Sonamura sub-division, in its generous attempt to provide ration to the approx 300 families of the state, has set up makeshift ration shop today at Boxanagar. SDM Sonamura Subrata Majumder himself monitored the entire process.
Reportedly, not less than 300 families who are entitled with the PDS facility are staying beyond the fence owing to which they had been restricted entry by the BSF guards. As they had been restricted from crossing over to the Indian side of the fencing, they could not lift their quota since the April first week followed by a BSF advisory.
Soon after reports of irregularities came into the surface, the civil administration took concreted attempts and provided started providing rations to those distressed families from April 13 last. The families were being also supplied with the other essentials in return of money by the Red Cross Society volunteers, a source in the SDM office told this reporter.
“The BSF in its directives restricted entry of any individual. In Sonamura which shares 87 kilometers of international borders with Bangladesh, the total number of families staying beyond the borders account 300. People who are in the 8.5 kilometers unfenced patch are allowed to lift their rations regularly. But, the BSF authorities resolved not to allow anyone to cross the fencing, thus we have started taking ration shops to the entitled beneficiaries” said the source.
The makeshift ration shop, the source added, has been set up newly to benefit the beneficiaries of Boxanagar. In some cases, due to network issues, the administration is facing trouble to deliver the goods in time, but by and large, there are no cases where some in left, he added.
The source also informed that the red cross society had been engaged supply other goods so that none of the family ran out of kitchen resources.
