Maharash Mela of Deocherra which is a pride of Manipuri community creates a huge space of harmony in North district. The 59 years old Rash Mela of Manipuri community is the largest fair of North. The inhabitants of Das, Nath and Malakar community also participate in the fair.
One eminent person of Deocherra Radhika Sharma introduced the fair before 59 years to enrich the culture throughout North District.
Sandipan Sharma the fourth generation of Radhika Sharma is the president of the Mela Committee this year.
Manipuri Mandap and premises of Rash are situated at right hand side of the road near Tilthai Bazar on the way from Dharmanagar to Panisagar.
Mainly the inhabitants of Yubarajnagar, Uttar Deocherra and common people of Deocherra village extend the hand of cooperation for the fair. However Sharma family bears the major expense of the fair.
The date of Mela determined on Friday last according to opinion of experts. The small businessmen start to fix up the place of their shop in the fair before few days of the fair to open their well decorated shop during fair.
The mela creates an environment of happiness from the evening. The gathering goes on increasing with the depth of night. Although the main programme starts at 11 p.m.
The programme has been divided into six sessions according to tradition. The programme begins with Rag. Later Chamar, Chandan, Malini, Krishna and Radha Krishner Milan come one by one. The crow starts calling before the rising of sun when the last session of Rash ends.
On the occasion recitation of Mahabharata and Annahar organized all over the Kartik month according to Bengali calendar. Most of the people of the district wait with lot of interest all over the year to enjoy the fair.
District secretary of BJP Jadab Lal Nath attended the programme on Friday with other party colleagues. In short the entire fair turns into an ocean of harmony in North district.
