One lorry driver caught red handed by SP of North Bhanu Pada Chakraborty in allegation of smuggling sacks of rice while supplying rice from godown to ration shop yesterday.
Sources said that a lorry bearing number TR-08-1691 started for Damcherra ration shop from State Godown with 220 sacks yesterday. Acting on secret information police came to know that sacks of rice are being unloaded from the lorry.
Immediately police conducted a raid at Krishnapur Petrol Pump at 4 a.m. today and arrested driver Mahananda Nath who shifted 15 sacks of rice from the lorry. The authority found the weight of the lorry reduced 790 Kg by bringing it to Godown again.
