Jetty construction continues in war-footing

AGARTALA:

Despite the nationwide lockdown and it’s impact on the availability of hired hands and other resources, the construction of the makeshift jetty at the Sonamura region continued in war-footing towards competition.

The floating jetty, many of the locals feel, would bring about serious economic development for the region as it going to be the lone waterway connectivity point of the state. The jetty would enable the region to halt small vessels there for transshipments of goods coming through the Sonamura-Daudkanti protocol route.

Speaking on the issue, an official posted there said, “Now, the aluminum sheets are being placed at the floor. After it gets complete, we will start roofing of the jetty. We have used 700 special plastic made boxes in the stairs and as the primary building boxes”.

He also said, the construction process begins on June 01 last. A team of the higher officials will visit the spot tomorrow to assess the ground situation. The entire process will take 7 to 8 days maximum to be completed. Once it is complete this jetty will be able to bear a load of 12 ton at a time, he added.

One of the locals said, “It is a matter of immense pleasure for us that we will see ships ferrying goods at our area. We are hopeful of experiencing the feeling live”.
