Irregularities in setting up a new irrigation facility at Kaulikura Gram Panchayat under Gournagar RD block of Kailashahar had triggered resentment among the locals.
As per reports, despite a huge amount of Rs 30 lakh had been disbursed to set up the pond in not less than 8 kani of fertile land in order to facilitate the local farmers, the progress of work in the work site was not satisfactory.
The project that was undertaken in the year 2016, had not seen any development so far.
According to locals, the local contractor and some of the employees of the fishery department tried to fleece their own coffers without doing anything. But, when the locals created pressure on them the department took initiatives to resume work in the said site after four years.
Reportedly, 90 percent of the crop land of the village was being used for growing paddy twice a year. But, due to lack of irrigation facilities, the local farmers demanded an irrigation facility in the village. Acting upon their demands, the horticulture department had chosen an 8 kani plot belong to Sujit Debnath and Jeeban Debnath. According to the department, both Sujit and Jeeban would get a chance of doing fishery in the said pond and the farmers of the locality would be able to fetch adequate water for their cultivation. The department released a sum Rs 30 lakh for the project, but in reality, the project could not take any shape in last 4 years.
Angered by the negligence, the locals approached the concerned authorities to press for their demands. The local Upaprdahan of the village said, “I have personally met the department and the concerned officials to complete the project but in vain. A number of times written complaints are given to the department but they seem reluctant make the work order and estimate public”.
