Our correspondent added from Sabroom that bandh called by BJP and Congress in protest of pre planned murder of Journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik observed peacefully at Sabroom and Manu constituency. Meanwhile hectic activity of BJP and CPI-M supporters observed in the subdivision in support and in protest of the bandh since morning today.
Sources said that BJP leader Sankar Roy led the BJP supporters for picketing at 40 Sabroom constituency while BJP leader Subhasish Danda led the BJP picketers at 39 Manu constituency. BJP supporters divided into different groups. It is also noticeable that strong resentment prevailing among people after inhuman incident of Journalist’s murder. So buses of long rout, auto rickshaw and other vehicles were absent from the road today. Besides 100 percent bandh observed at vegetable and all kinds of shops. Although today was weekly closing day of shops at Sabroom. Besides school, college, banks, SDM Office were closed today. Similar scene was found at Manubazar and rural areas of Sabroom subdivision.
Our correspondent from Khowai added that 12 hours bandh call by BJP in protest of Dutta Bhowmik’s murder and on demand or resignation of Chief Minister observed at Khowai since morning without any untoward incident. Office, court, market and movement of vehicles were completely suspended today. Meanwhile police arrested 190 BJP workers and supporters in allegation of picketing. However they were released at 3 p.m. Although there was no Congress picketers in support of bandh called by Congress today.
Our correspondent added from Teliamura that added that bandh called by BJP was overall successful at Teliamura today. School, college, offices, court and shops were closed. The picketers organized rally in support of bandh since morning. However a dispute started between picketers and chairperson of Teliamura Municipal Council when he went to enter at the office. At last TMC authority decided to close office under pressure. Besides bandh observed successfully at Kalyanpur and Krishnapur constituency. Meanwhile Journalists of Teliamura Press Club observed at silent rally in protest of murder of Journalist Dutta Bhowmik today. Intellectuals and Teliamura Bazar Byabsayi Samiti were also participated in the silent rally.
Our correspondent added from Gandacherra that bandh observed successfully without any untoward incident today. About 300 BJP workers and supporters participated in picketing and rally in the morning today. Large numbers of police and TSR deployed in the sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incident. It was also surprising matter that Left Front supporters did not appear in the ground to oppose the bandh.
Our correspondent from Udaipur added that bandh observed peacefully at Udaipur today. Almost all offices, court, schools and colleges were closed and movement of all vehicles remained suspended today.
In reaction on 12 hours Bandh called by BJP in protest of Journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik’s murder CPI-M Central Committee Member Goutam Das said, “Picketing of BJP resembles semi fascist terrorism during the period of Congress – TUJS Coalition Government from 1988 to 1992. The goons have taken shelters in BJP now who were involved with hooliganism during the period of Coalition government. CPI-M will organize protest rally tomorrow in protest of hooliganism by BJP picketers today.”
Our Belonia correspondent adds: a sporadic violence broke out at Kukucherra under Belonia subdivision between supporters of BJP and CPI-M in which four BJP supporters were injured. However the situation is stated to be under control now.
