With 31 more coronavirus patients succumbing on Friday, Gujarat's death toll climbed to 1,416 even as the state's total tally climbed to 22,562, in which Ahmedabad is the main contributor so far with 15,962 cases.
There are 5,645 active cases in Gujarat, of which 5,577 patients are stable, whereas 68 critical patients are on ventilators.
The health authorities conducted 5,212 RT-PCR tests across the state and detected 495 new cases on Friday, including Ahmedabad with 327 and followed by Surat 77, Vadodara 37, Mahesana 7, Gandhinagar, Rajkot and Bhavnagar 5 each, Kutch, Botad, Surendranagar and Navsari 4 each, Panchmahals 3, Patan, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Jamnagar and Amreli 2 each, Rajkot, Bharuch and Valsad two each and Banaskantha, Aravalli, and Narmada one positive case each.
Gujarat is recording almost 30 deaths on an average for the last 12 days, apart from around 480 cases daily since the beginning of the month. As many as 5,768 cases have been reported in the last 12 days in Gujarat.
Although Ahmedabad's contribution in the total cases is coming down from over 80 per cent to around 70 per cent, the death toll in Ahmedabad seems to remain steady at around 81 per cent right from the beginning of the outbreak.
Another worrying situation is that despite Ahmedabad's positive cases are steady around 250 to 300 daily, even while the virus is spreading in other cities like Surat, Gandhinagar and in other districts like Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, and Aravali.
Of the 31 patients who succumbing to the dreaded virus on Friday, Ahmedabad had the highest 22 casualties. Three patients from Surat, two patients from Gandhinagar and one patient each from Aravalli, Patan, Bharuch and a patient from another state also succumbed to the virus.
Till date, of the total casualties, 1,139 have died in Ahmedabad, followed by 93 in Surat, 45 in Vadodara, 21 in Gandhinagar, 13 in Panchmahals, 12 each in Anand, Bhavnagar and Aravalli, 9 in Patan and 8 each in Mahesana and Banaskantha.
On Friday, 392 patients were discharged, taking the total recoveries to 15,501.
Of the 22,562 cases, Ahmedabad accouts for maximum 15,962, followed by Surat 2,444, Vadodara 1,471, Gandhinagar 450, Mahesana 177, Bhavnagar 159, Banaskantha 148, Rajkot 145, Sabarkantha 135, Aravalli 133, Anand 124, Mahisagar 116, Panchmahals 113, Patan 109, Kheda 101, Kutch 99, Bharuch 74, Jamnagar 73, Surendranagar 65 and Botad 64 and Valsad 57 cases.
Of the total 2,78,136 tests in the state, 2,55,574 have tested negative.
People quarantined in the state number 2,12,887, including 2,06,695 in home quarantine and 6,192 in government facilities.
