Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated football turf, athletics track and hockey ground here at Agartala Dasarath Deb Sports Complex at Badharghat and said that the government is determined to develop facilities and platform for sports persons in the state.
Addressing the inauguration programme, the Chief Minister said that the government is striving relentlessly for the development of sports sector in Tripura. Advanced infrastructure is being developed for the budding sports talents of the state, he added.
“This year's state budget had also given special emphasis on sports sector,” Dr Saha said, adding that the state government is committed to building necessary facilities and infrastructure to facilitate grooming of the state's budding talents.
He said that sports are a significant medium to keep the young generation away from drugs. Because, healthy mind helps in building healthy body, he said.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this today after inaugurating the newly built synthetic football turf, synthetic athletics track and synthetic hockey ground at the Dasarath Deb Sports Complex at Badharghat, Agartala. It is worth mentioning that the synthetic athletics track was dedicated to the sports personality late Deba Bhakti Jamatia, synthetic hockey ground was dedicated to late Swadesh Priya Nandi and the synthetic football turf was dedicated to late Pratul Bhattacharya.
The Chief Minister said, the state government has taken various measures to remember and show due respect to the sports personalities of the state who have brought fame to the state. That is why various sports facilities are being dedicated to their names. Advanced sports facilities would also be developed at Bholagiri, Agartala, for the convenience of the sports persons, he added.
Meanwhile, the state sports and youth affairs minister Tinku Roy said that multiple synthetic football turfs, tennis court, flood light, swimming pool, basket ball court, indoor hall etc. have been constructed in the state for the development of sports infrastructure.
