The Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has pledged his government's unwavering commitment to the comprehensive development of sports and sports infrastructure in the state. During the inauguration of an open Gym in Ramnagar, he emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's advocacy for practicing Yoga, which has led to the celebration of International Yoga Day on 21st June across the country.
Dr. Saha lauded PM Modi's global vision, stating that Yoga is not merely an exercise but a profound philosophy and tradition of India. He stressed that good health is essential for fostering positive thinking and accomplishing constructive endeavors.
Acknowledging the efforts of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) in enhancing cleanliness in the city, including roads and drains, Dr. Saha called for collective action from the government and citizens to eliminate both physical and mental garbage. The newly constructed gym in the area is expected to contribute to a positive environment.
The Chief Minister revealed several initiatives aimed at boosting sports in the state. The government has allocated funds for two Yuva Awas centers, one in Kailashahar (Unakoti District) and another in Udaipur (Gomati District). Additionally, plans are underway to establish a stadium at Santirbazar in the South District to address the infrastructure needs.
To support athletes and nurture talent, the state government has allocated funds for the 'Mukhyamantri Sports Development Scheme,' which will provide scholarships to sports persons. Four synthetic turf football grounds have already been set up, and the government remains dedicated to further advancing sports.
Dr. Saha highlighted the transformative power of sports, enabling individuals to grow physically and mentally, overcoming obstacles to achieve their goals. He emphasized that the government's efforts to address societal needs require collective participation from all citizens.
