Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday laid emphasis on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'One District, One Product' initiative and urged for promotion of local products under the MGNREGA scheme in different Gram Panchayats and villages of the state apart from creation of permanent assets.
Dr. Saha on Monday chaired a review meeting of Tripura State Employment Guarantee Council here at the secretariat. Reviewed the progress of different schemes of the Rural Development department including MGNREGA.
He said that emphasis must be given on concerned districts for cultivation of all locally popular products and those which are highly produced. He said that instead of selecting beneficiaries solely on MGNREGA basis, the concerned departments must take initiative to select beneficiaries of different schemes from the department's own budget.
Importance must be given in selecting the right beneficiary in terms of creating permanent assets under MGNREGA to ensure proper implementation and that it is permanent, he said, adding that the monitoring system must be further strengthened for quick and timely implementation of works under different schemes including MGNREGA.
