Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday chaired a review meeting with the state transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Chief Secretary J K Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan and other officials to check the state’s preparedness on starting international flight service between Agartala-Chittagong.
During the meeting the Chief Minister directed the DGP for appointment of at least 17 security personnel in the bureau of immigration at Agartala MBB airport as directed by the Union Home Ministry. The Chief Minister directed the officials to take necessary measures as per the instruction of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Home Ministry.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, has directed the officials to complete the pending works on priority basis so that the international flight service can be made operational from Agartala MBB Airport to Bangladesh.
In the meeting, Chief Secretary J K Sinha said that the Transport Department has taken all efforts to start the Agartala-Chittagong international flight service. The State Government has also requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation to declare Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport as an international airport and start international flight services from Agartala to Chittagong, he said.
He further added that the Ministry of Home Affairs was also requested to take necessary steps to declare Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport as an immigration check post. The issue of setting up immigration check post at MBB airport is currently under the consideration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, he said.
