Priyanka Dasgupta, hailing from Dipa Karmakars home city of Agartala in Tripura, grabbed the spotlight on Day 1 of the gymnastics competition, clinching the Girls Under-17 All-Around crown in the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 here on Friday.
"I am very happy with her medal. It was a very good performance. I trained with her since 2011 and we were roommates between 2014 to 2017," Dipa reminisced on Monday.
Among the respected dignitaries Sports minister Sahid Choudhury, Mayor Dr Prafullajit Sinha, Parakhhit Murasingh, Samarjit Bhowmik and PWD Chief Engineer Ashit Bhowmik will remain present in the opening ceremony.
"My rehabilitation is complete and I started my training from 1st December. I will be joining the camp in Delhi from next week on December 11," Karmakar told reporters at a college felicitation programme here.
18th State Masters Athletics tournament will be held on December 9 at Badharghat stadium. The tournament will start from 9.00 am.
Today was the last day of the tournament at Andhra Pradesh as on the last day Madhumita won gold medal in Under 16 Girl’s 200 meter sprint. She took only 26.28 seconds time to secure the first place in the list.
In the under 14 Boy’s High Jump event Abhishek Lagardo secured the gold medal. He jumped over a distance of 1.74 cm. this three-day long tournament will come to an end tomorrow.
Headmistress Nabamita Dey Acharjee thanked to each and everyone for the successful completion of the event. Also on behalf of the school authorities golden girl Dipa Karmakar has been felicitated.
Both Madhumita Deb and coach Bikalpa Rudra Paul was very much pleased on this performance while on behalf of the state athletic association congratulatory message has been conveyed to Madhumita.
An Executive committee meeting of Tripura Gymnastics association will be held on November 21 at the office room of the association.
In Under 16 Girl’s 100 meter sprint event Madhumita simply made storm at track and field and with 12.33 seconds she moved to the semifinal of the tournament.
Besides Dipa, the NIT also conferred D.Sc. degree upon IIT Guwahati Director Goutam Biswas and Jadavpur University professor Biswajit Ghosh at its tenth convocation held on Saturday.
Tripura Under 17 Athletics team left today for the upcoming National School Under 17 Athletics tournament which will be held at Bhopal from November 7-10.

The members of the association believe that both these athletes not only made proud of their country but also highlighted the name of Tripura in the biggest stage.
Sadar Subdivision level Inter School Athletics tournament ended today as in Under 14, 17 and 19 categories the tournament held in both Boy’s and Girl’s section.
Last time this tournament held at Guwahati where Tripura won total 16 medals including 5 gold medals.
145 athletes from Sadar Subdivision remained present at Badharghat Dasarath Deb Stadium as the camp was schedule to start from 10.00 am.
