In yet another incident, the former minister of Tripura Ratan Bhowmik was attacked allegedly by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cadres. The incident took place on Monday morning at Bagma under the South Tripura district. “Specific case has been registered against local BJP leader Nimai Das, who led the violent attack,” adding to this the deputy opposition leader and former minister Badal Chowdhury said, “This perhaps is a coward act by the ruling BJP party.”
Mr. Chowdhury was addressing press conference here at party headquarter at Agartala Melarmath to brief the incident took place this morning.
He informed that the incident took place after the former minister and CPI-M MLA Ratan Bhowmik accompanied by few other party leader this morning left for Bagma to visit the victim party workers who were attacked by the ruling BJP party supporters on Sunday night. “During their visit on Monday morning, a group of BJP party workers started pelting stones on them targeting Bhowmik and manhandled them,” adding to this Mr. Chowdhury informed, “Following this attack Ratan Bhowmik and other leaders including Manik Shome and Nepal Deb had to rush to nearby Gomati district hospital.”
However, after primary treatment MLA Ratan Bhowmik was released from the hospital. Mr. Chowdhury further alleged that MLA Ratan Bhowmik’s vehicle was also ransacked by the BJP goons.
Meantime, Mr. Chowdhury addressing a press conference on Monday morning also alleged, “Even I along with other party leaders were blocked on our way to Belonia sub-division on Sunday last.” He alleged, “On several occasion of their visit to the Belonia sub-division, the BJP goons tried to manhandle and physically assault us.”
