Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday reviewed the progress of key development initiatives in Unakoti district, placing special emphasis on tourism, infrastructure expansion and employment generation.
Chairing the district's first administrative review meeting as the Guardian Minister at the Kailashahar Circuit House, Chowdhury held extensive discussions with senior officials on the implementation of ongoing government projects and measures to accelerate inclusive development.
He said the government's priority is to ensure that the benefits of development reach every household in the district while creating greater opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance, particularly for the youth. He stressed the need for coordinated planning and efficient execution to transform Unakoti into a modern and economically vibrant district.
The meeting reviewed the status of projects across several sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, drinking water, roads, power supply, public services and infrastructure. The minister instructed officials to complete all welfare and development works within the stipulated deadlines while ensuring transparency, accountability and quality.
Recognising Unakoti's rich historical, religious and natural heritage, Chowdhury highlighted tourism as a major driver of economic growth. He called for focused efforts to develop tourism infrastructure, improve transport and communication networks and create sustainable livelihood opportunities linked to the sector.
The review also explored measures to strengthen food processing industries to enhance the value of agricultural produce and local products, with the aim of boosting the rural economy and generating additional income for farmers and small entrepreneurs.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to balanced regional development, the minister said Tripura is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, with special attention to unlocking Unakoti district's development potential through improved infrastructure, tourism promotion and people-centric governance.
