In a major anti-narcotics operation, Tripura Police seized 211 kilograms of dry ganja concealed underground in a dense forest under Thalibari ADC Village within the jurisdiction of Jatrapur Police Station in Sepahijala district. During the operation, a cannabis nursery was also destroyed.
Acting on specific intelligence provided by the State Intelligence Branch (SIB), a joint team comprising personnel from the Special Task Force (STF) and Jatrapur Police conducted an extensive search operation under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Parthanath Bhowmik on Sunday morning.
The operation, which lasted nearly three to four hours, led to the recovery of 211 kg of dry ganja stored inside seven drums buried beneath the ground in the forest. The seized contraband was later brought to Jatrapur Police Station.
Speaking to reporters, OC Parthanath Bhowmik said no arrests could be made as the narcotics had been hidden in a remote forest area. He added that the ganja had been buried with the intention of trafficking it to different locations at an appropriate time. However, the police operation foiled the smugglers' plans before the contraband could be moved.
The estimated market value of the seized ganja is around Rs 50 lakh, the police officer said. Authorities have launched further investigations to identify those involved in the illegal drug trafficking network.
