The Indian stock market witnessed a roller-coaster ride on Wednesday, as benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty bounced back strongly in the latter half of the day after uncertainties over impending US trade tariff eased.

As the new US President Donald Trump began his second innings with signing several executive orders along with sounding threats about impending trade tariffs on certain countries and BRICS nations, both Sensex and Nifty plunged on Tuesday.

Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Monday, taking positive cues from its Asian peers, as traders geared up for Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th US President.

As the fastest-growing large economy, with steady growth projected at 6.7 per cent over the next two fiscal years, India continues to outpace global peers and cement its position as a leader in economic resilience and progress, the government said on Saturday.

At around 9.30 am, Sensex was trading at 76,717.03 after dropping 325.79 points or 0.42 per cent, while Nifty was trading at 23,225 after declining 86.80 points or 0.37 per cent.

India's total exports of merchandise and services have clocked a 6.03 per cent growth to $602.64 billion during April-December of the current financial year from $568.36 billion in the same period of the previous financial year, the Commerce and Industry Ministry announced on Wednesday.

India's trade deficit narrowed to $21.94 billion in December compared to the corresponding figure of $32.84 billion for November, as exports grew while imports declined on a month-to-month basis.

India's economic growth will continue to hold steady in FY25 despite global uncertainties, with a projected GDP at 6.7 per cent in FY26, a report showed on Friday.

According to the experts, "Currently, the market is anticipating a revival in consumer spending, driven by the festive season and year-end holidays, adding to the sentiments. Additionally, an expectation of an increase in the US spending is propelling the IT sector."

According to experts, "the market continued to remain range bound ahead of domestic CPI data and weakening rupee. Though inflation is anticipated to drop, investors are maintaining a close vigil on the vegetable prices, which will determine the future rate trajectory."

The Indian stock market opened higher on Thursday ahead of the consumer price index (CPI) data. In the early trade, selling was seen in Nifty's auto and PSU bank sectors.

At around 9:27 am, Sensex was trading at 81,748.46 after gaining 39.34 points or 0.05 per cent, while the Nifty was trading at 24,696.10 after rising 18.30 points or 0.07 per cent.
