Youth Congress launches NRU to counter NRC, NPR

AGARTALA:

In an apparent bid to counter the pan-India NRC (National Registrar of Citizenship) and NPR (National Population Register) pressed by the government, the Youth Congress has launched a pan-India unemployment register. As per the national level outreach programme launched here in Tripura today, the Youth Wing of the Congress party has floated a toll-free number—‘8151994411’ to get enlisted with the programme names National Register of Unemployed (NRU).

Speaking to the media persons, here in Congress Bhavan, Youth Congress national spokesperson Ashutosh Chatterjee alleged that the government was trying to divert the minds of youth by pressing issues like NRC, NPR and CAA in action when unemployment and hike in the prices of necessary commodities became a growing problem.

“To diver the mind of youths from the national issue likes unemployment; the centre has introduced the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the nation. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a tool to divert the mind of youths from important issues like unemployment. After the Narendra Modi led BJP government formed in the centre the unemployment rate has increased. Instead of providing 2 Crores of Jobs which he had promised, the centre is now terminating people for their respective jobs”, Chatterjee told media.

He also claimed that the number of suicides due to unemployment had also reached risen up to an extreme level but there were no visible attempts to prevent it.

“Suicide death is in rising due to unemployment. The unemployment rate in Tripura is also increased and has crossed 27 per cent which ranks second among the top five states. The unemployment rate in the country is the highest in 45 years. The government is misleading the youths in the name of CAA and NRC”, he told reporters.

He also slammed the government for concentrating on building detention camps instead of job creation and industrialization. He also wondered as to how the economy would improve if the public money got invested in detention camps.

“For one detention camp, the government spends Rs 46 crores for sheltering 3,000 identified illegal migrants. Further money is needed to take care them”, Chatterjee told reporters adding that it was a sheer misuse of public money and an attempt to escape the right questions. He also told reporters that nationwide protests would be initiated seeking answers from the government regarding unemployment.
