Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Santana Chakma who also holds the ARDD portfolio informed the reporters that the SW & SE department was contemplating to conduct yearly reviews in order to select the eligible beneficiaries only for the benefits of social schemes.
“After 2015, no reviews were held. As per rule, every year a review of the beneficiaries has to be conducted so that the department can assess the number of eligible applicants” the Minister said adding that many people surrendered their beneficiary accounts in the recently conducted review.
The financial status of families changes with time. A member of the family may have got a government job or else may get financially boosted through business. The department has to assess all these factors before including or excluding beneficiaries so that the government’s money does not get misspent, the Minister observed.
Now, she added, our primary task is to verify details of the people included in the scheme and provide them social allowances as the new system. To a question regarding the increase in the sum of allowances, she said that the BJP party had assured that the social allowances would be increased upto Rs 2,000 and the department was working on that direction. She also informed the media that about 4 lakh people are included in various schemes under social welfare and social education department.
On the ARDD sector, she said, the department wholeheartedly trying to reduce its out of the pocket expenditure by setting up an animal food producing unit in the state. “In the RK Nagar farm the department is trying to set up a full-fledged animal food processing unit. Attempts are being made to speed up the process with our doctors in the state” she said.
She also informed that the department had already initiated a process to collect the eggs from the ducks given to Rudra Sagar last in the first phase. “we are planning to introduce a chain system so that the government can procure eggs from the state people directly so that people get benefitted directly from the government” she added.
