YABA tablets worth Rs 4.5 Crore seized at Khowai

AGARTALA:

Smuggling of crazy drugs, mostly YABA tablets, a psychotropic medicine, seems to have created inroads in the bordering areas of the state. Repeated seizures of the drugs indicated that the drugs are being carried to the bordering areas of the state and later were illegally driven to the neighboring country.

A similar incident was reported at Khowai last night where a private car was seized and more than 90,000 thousand YABA tablets were recovered from the car. Police sources said, the car which was hailing from Silchar was to deliver the consignment to Sonamura but was busted at Khowai by the police.

Two persons identified as Abul Khayar(20) and Mamun-ul-Islam(20) was also arrested from the car which was heading towards Kamalpur through Khowai-Kamalpur highway. Two number plates bearing different registration numbers of Assam and Tripura were also recovered from the vehicle.

Reportedly, the vehicle was approaching towards Kamalpur and was confiscated in a joint operation of police, BSF and Assam Rifles Jawans. The seized items worth near about Rs 4.5 crore, sources in the police department confirmed. Speaking to the reporters later, SP Khowai district Dr. Kiran Kumar said, we got secret information last evening that some suspicious vehicle carrying huge drugs is moving ahead towards Kamalpur through Khowai-Kamalpur road.

Accordingly, police, BSF and Assam Rifles Jawans put up a barricade in the Barbaghai area. The vehicle (white swift desire) was stopped at around 11:00 pm in the night and all the materials were seized after conducting a search operation.

The driver of the vehicle is from Tripura and we have strong suspicion that the other person was from somewhere in the Barak Valley. Both the arrested persons were sent for three day police custody after being produced in the Court.
