Hundreds of families based in different pockets of the city reeling under serious crisis of drinking water due to over three day long electricity snag caused by the heavy rain and thunder storm of Wednesday. Wednesday’s storm largely affected the electric connectivity uprooting giant trees and electric poles in different parts of the city—chiefly the in Southern part.
Areas like Camperbazar, Joynagar, Drop-gate, some parts of Badharghat, Arundhati Nagar and Dashamighat are under darkness since Wednesday last. At Joyanagar, a number of giant trees fell upon the electric wires. Electric transformers at Camperbazar went out of operation followed by the rain. At, Taltala and adjacent areas electric poles were damaged owing to the heavy hit of storm. In some areas, the electricity services were reinstated but after few hours once again the situation turned the same due to technical glitches.
Moreover, adding fuel to the fire, as the electricity services are not in the proper mode, water supply services were also went out of order. Locals of MB Tilla Bazar this afternoon staged a road blockade to get electric and water supply services resumed. Soon the local political leaders swung into action and successfully convinced the local. Water supply tanks were also pressed into action to hold control over the situation. More or less, in all areas water supply tanks were sent to provide water to distressed families.
“We are running of drinking water. Since Wednesday last water supply water supply services came to a complete halt. We understand that without electricity water supply is not possible but if such a basic service stops for a three long days it become a serious trouble” Said a local who was filling his pitcher from the water tank.
Later in the evening, locals gheroaed the local electric subdivision office of Bordowali and also staged a road blockade. SDM Sadar Nantu Ranjan Das rushed to the spot and convinced the agitators to hold back their blockade. Speaking to the newsman, SDM Nantu Ranjan Das said, I have assured the agitators that by tomorrow all the services will be resumed in normal pace. I have also talked to the authorities of civic body, more water tankers will be sent to localities facing water crisis.
Meanwhile, According to a highly placed source of the TSECL, the TSECL is facing a sharp crisis of manpower nowadays. It is true if we have the adequate number of technicians the king of damage that took place could have been controlled in a day or two. The main reason behind this delay is lack of workers. Moreover, the rain is also disturbing the work under process in regular intervals. The source also hoped that the situation will be normal by tomorrow as most of the technical problems have been fixed already.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also assured this morning that 80% of the work will be completed by tomorrow and all the services will be reinstated shortly.
