Prof. Moti Kapoor, a suspended Guest Lecturer of Tripura University, yet again hit the headlines for wrong reasons.
He had gone viral in the social media platform for his Kung Fu and singing skills performed inside Varsity classroom two days ago following which the authorities concerned already put him under suspension. Now, the same person has come into focus for his violent activities in Tripura Times office on Wednesday evening triggering panic among the employees of Tripura Times.
It is understood that the Guest Lecturer is not happy with the suspension but at the same time any kind of violent activity, in any sense, is also not welcomed from a person like Kapoor, who is an educator of state’s highest educational institution.
In an unprecedented and violent incident, Kapoor, the suspended Tripura University Professor, and his accomplice, who identified himself as Samar Chakraborty, along with a group of unidentified miscreants, ran amok in Tripura Times office at about 7 pm this evening.
The hooligans first tried to enter the residence of Justice Arindam Lodh of the High Court of Tripura but failed to enter as the entire residence was locked. However, being failed to enter, they kicked and tried to vandalize the entrance of the chamber of Justice Lodh. Meanwhile, Justice Lodh along with his family is out of station.
After the failed attempt, the goons came down and barged into the official complex of “Tripura Times”—they assaulted and threatened the staff present at the scene. According to Moti Kapoor, who acted too violent on the Manager- Saumen Bhattacharjee and a senior reporter of Tripura Times- Jaydip Chakrabarti, repeatedly claimed that a report, published on Moti Kapoor’s circus during his class at the University on August 10 last, was baseless.
The senior reporter tried his best to convince Kapoor that the news was filed on the basis of a video which gone viral in the social media. However, the armed goons kept hurling abuses on Tripura Times employees. The two employees of Tripura Times, who were assaulted during the incident, sustained injuries.
The staff and employees of Tripura Times strongly condemned the incident. An FIR has been filed against Kapoor and his accomplice at West Agartala police station soon after the unprecedented incident occurred. Sources in the University also informed this website that Kapoor had also abused the students of his class wherefrom his circus went online. He learnt to have threatened the students of giving poor marks.
The accused was at large till the last information came. SP West Ajit Pratap Singh assured that police already initiated a process to nab the culprit.
However, the incident has invited severe criticism from various corridors and journalist bodies. Tripura Journalist Union President Sayed Sajjad Ali and Secretray Pranab Sarkar rushed to Tripura Times office and talked with the injured employees. President of Agartala Press Club Subal Kumar Dey also condemned the move and urged the police to take immediate action against the erring professor. Union of Working Journalist, another journalist outfit of the state also came down heavily on the act of Kapoor.
