Ahead of the polls of Urban Local Bodies and Agartala Municipal Corporation, the state urban development department has published its draft area delimitation orders increasing the numbers of wards and in some cases areas that fall under civic bodies.
Addressing a Press Conference, District Magistrate West Tripura Sailesh Kumar Yadav said, addressing the longstanding demand of people and the political parties, the urban development department has published its draft delimitation order that deals with four urban local bodies located under the West Tripura district.
He said, as per the proposed delimitation orders, the number of constituencies have been increased in Agartala Municipal Corporation from 49 to 51 that houses a population of 5,59,059. In these 51 constituencies, 13 are reserved for SC candidates, 02 goes to ST candidates and altogether 25 seats are reserved for women candidates. Apart from the Agartala Municipal Council, Ranirbazar Municipal Council, Jirania Nagar Panchayat and Mohanpur Municipal Council have also seen an increase in its area or wards, he said.
The number of seats has been increased in the Mohanpur municipal council from 13 to 15 and in other civic bodies, the number of seats remained unchanged but the area was expanded to an extent.
According to a press statement issued by the urban development department, suggestions and objections are invited by December 3, which will be heard and disposed of by December 8. And, the final delimitation order would be published on December 10 next.
