Protest sparked at Tripura University premises today as hundreds of students studying in the “Distance Education” demonstrated before the department seeking explanation of the poor results.
Reportedly, many students- number not confirmed as the University officials remained tight-lipped to say anything about the matter- failed to secure pass marks in several subjects of the 3rd semester exams of the masters degree course and were also, allegedly, not given time to prepare for the ensuing exams.
One of the students protesting before the department told media that after the results that were published in the University website were questioned by the students, the teachers and the departmental heads convened a meeting with the students on August 16 next. But, on the contrary they had published the dates of next exams without even consulting with the students.
“The students who are studying in the University approached the teachers after the results were published. Many students who deserve to get higher marks failed to secure pass marks. The teachers, in an attempt to resolve the issue convened a meeting on August 16 next. But, without resolving the problem they released the dates of next exams. Now question arises as to how a student will prepare for his exams without knowing the fact what has happened to his or her previous results” the student said.
