Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday pitched to increase the fish production in the state and stop the leakage of Rs. 700 crores in Bangladesh and other states for importing fish. He said, "Fish production is less in the state is less to meet the demand, forcing us to depend on imports from other States and Bangladesh." He said, "If we can produce around 20, 000 MT of fish within three years, this shall bring back our Rs. 700 crore and may it can be doubled up."
Mr. Deb was addressing a large gathering of farmers and other walks of life during three days long state level fish festival began from Friday here at Agartala Hapania International ground.
"Tripura government is currently working on scientific method of fish production to meet the deficit of total 24, 181 MT of fish which comes from the neighbouring country of Bangladesh," adding to this Mr. Deb said, " Tripura is currently producing 72, 273 MT of fish which is not enough to meet the demand of 96, 454 MT."
He said, "Fish production is one of the major sources of generating revenue and grow the state's economy. The fish producers or the farmers are capable of aiding the state in growing it's economy and generate more revenue for the state."
