The bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde on Wednesday sought reply from the centre to respond to the petitions filed against the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Tripura and Assam within 4 weeks. The apex court however delinked both the NE states and held that the anti-CAA petitions from Assam and Tripura will be heard separately. The apex court while hearing all the 144 petitions filed on the CAA has refused to issue any interim order unless the centre table its reply within 4 weeks.
Welcoming the decision of the apex court on Wednesday Tripura's royal scion Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman said, "The SC took note of cross border infiltration (as shown on video as evidence in Simna and Khowai incidents), our regional agreement like TNV and ATTF accords as well as instrument of accession signed by Kanchan Prabha Devi ."
"I am hopeful that the constitutional bench to be constituted as per the direction of the apex court will address our issue within a month," adding to this Pradyot said, "We are glad that our issues were not hijacked as has been on previous occasions." Pradyot, however, welcomed middleman between the centre and Government of India.
Meantime, the former Chief Minister of Assam also an advocate Tarun Gogoi coming out the apex court hoped that the SC's order over delinking CAA from Assam shall go in their favour. Mr. Gogoi however also met Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman today outside the apex court.
