Tripura MP demands Steel Scrap centers in NE

The Tripura MP Pratima Bhowmik on Monday demanded the center to implement steel scrap policy in the North East Region of the country. This perhaps has come up while Pratima Bhomwik was moving her starred question in the Lok Sabha on Monday. She wanted to know if the government has any decision to open scrap centers in the country.

However replying to her starred question in the parliament, the Union Minister for Steel and Petroleum Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government has notified a Steel Scrap Recycling Policy (SSRP) to provide a framework to facilitate and promote the establishment of metal scrapping centers in India for scientific processing and recycling on November 7th.

MP Pratima Bhowmik asked, "If the government has any plan to establish or fix any number of scrapping centers in the country or NE region of the country." In reply, the Union Minister said the Steel Scrap Recycling Policy does not envisage setting up of scrap centers in the country by the government. He said that the role of government is to provide a framework to facilitate and promote the establishment of metal scrapping centers in the country.
